Over the last 13 years, our outreach programme has positively impacted children, victims of domestic violence, churches, community leaders and the environment, amongst others.
It is our aim to improve the social, health, educational and economic opportunities in the community of La Brea and environs by:
› Creating awareness of issues;
› Strengthening relationships within the La Brea community and environs;
› Facilitating community based programmes; and
› Mobilizing action by improving the community’s wellbeing.
Beyond engaging the people of La Brea in activities designed to develop leadership skills and enhance the community, TOFCO supports the National Energy Skills Center with building the country’s human capital through offering training to programme participants.
Our ultimate objective is to help people who cannot otherwise help themselves. We hope that through our outreach work we can empower residents to go on and make their lives better.
In December 2016, TOFCO endeavored to help the Brighton AC Primary School in La Brea effect much needed repairs to the roof of the infants department. This school is one of two main primary schools in the area that educates children between the ages of 5 to 13 years old. At our initial site visit, we discovered that this school was very much neglected maintenance wise and in particular found that the roof of the infants department which houses children between the ages of 5 and 6 years old was in a state of near collapse. Against this background, TOFCO decided to help. The work started during the school vacation in December, 2016 and was completed in time for the opening of the new school term in 2017.
